Amusement marijuana growing in New Mexico, legal to own

Morgan Lee and Cedar Atanasio Associated Press Santa Fe, New Mexico (AP) —As of Tuesday, it is legal for New Mexico people to own recreational marijuana and grow their plants at home.

The milestone was celebrated by cannabis consumers and supporters of criminal justice reform.

They say the poor and minority communities have been disproportionately charged with the use of marijuana.

Marijuana scents are no longer a good cause for searching for cars and property in New Mexico.

Amusement marijuana is currently legal in 16 states and Washington, DC, with Connecticut and Virginia coming to the list on Thursday.

New Mexico is joining the wave of states that have widely legalized cannabis throughout the legislative process, rather than a voter-approved voting initiative.

This will enable innovations such as marijuana’s “microbusiness” license, allowing up to 200 potted plants in cannabis operations from seed to sale.

Democratic Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham declared the day “a major step forward for both social justice and economic development in our state.

” After repeated unsuccessful legalization efforts in the Democratic-led legislature, Ruhan Grisham convened a special legislative meeting to tackle cannabis reform in March and signed the law in April.

People are also reading … “We are actively stopping the disproportionate criminalization of colored races for cannabis possession and building new industries,” Luhan Grisham said in a news release.

The new law allows people over the age of 21 to own up to 2 ounces (56 grams) of marijuana and grow up to 6 plants at home, for a total of 12 plants per household.
